Hyperphonk

Description

Hyper Phonk is a hyperpop-inspired evolution of Phonk that amplifies the genre’s intensity with chaotic energy and EDM influences. It fuses the rawness of Phonk with the over-the-top, glitchy, and experimental nature of hyperpop, resulting in a sound that’s electrifying, unpredictable, and wildly energetic.

Where did it come from?

Hyperphonk is a high-energy subgenre that emerged around 2020, blending Phonk with EDM and glitch influences. It is characterized by heavy drops, distorted bass, and experimental production techniques. Artists like BRUHMANEGOD, active during this time, were instrumental in pushing the boundaries of the style with aggressive sound design and chaotic structures. Around 2021, MC ORSEN further developed the genre by introducing elements of hardstyle and gabber, adding an intense, rave-like energy. By 2022, Hyperphonk gained significant traction in gaming livestreams and fast-paced online content, where its dynamic and intense nature perfectly complemented high-energy visuals.
