Wave Phonk

Description

Wave Phonk is a hybrid genre that merges the eerie, nostalgic elements of Phonk with the atmospheric and cinematic qualities of wave music. It’s defined by its dark, moody synths, expansive soundscapes, and an emotional depth that gives it a haunting, otherworldly feel.

Where did it come from?

Phonkwave blends the cinematic, atmospheric soundscapes of wave music with the dark, jazzy elements of Phonk. Klimeks’ "Eternally Yours" (2016) and Deadcrow’s "Thru The Night" (2019) set the foundation for this fusion. The genre is defined by its expansive pads, reese basslines, and haunting melodies, which create an emotional, almost surreal listening experience. Phonkwave became popular in underground SoundCloud scenes, offering a melodic and reflective take on Phonk.
